Adam Demner, MD

Adam Demner, MD, is a dually board-certified psychiatrist with expertise in Addiction Psychiatry. His approach is grounded in the belief that meaningful change begins when patients feel deeply understood and actively involved in their care. Dr. Demner integrates psychotherapy with medication management, offering a thoughtful and personalized approach to complex emotional struggles—including those involving substance use, compulsive behaviors, or long-standing interpersonal patterns.

Known for his calm, collaborative style, Dr. Demner helps patients reflect on how they relate to themselves and others, while also addressing the biological and behavioral components of mental health. His practice is shaped by a commitment to discretion, honesty, and a deep respect for individual experience.

Background

Dr. Demner studied neuroscience at the University of Florida, graduating magna cum laude. He earned his medical degree from New York Medical College, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. He completed his psychiatry residency at New York-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, serving as Chief Resident, where he received extensive training in psychotherapy. He furthered his training with a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at New York University/Bellevue Hospital and continues to regularly lecture and mentor psychiatrists-in-training.

Dr. Demner has held leadership and teaching roles in academic medicine in Florida and New York City. His research has been published in both textbooks and peer-reviewed journals, ranging in topics cognitive-behavioral therapy, co-occurring disorders to the stigma surrounding mental illness. He currently sees patients in private practice and is licensed in both Florida and New York, providing in-person and/or telehealth services.
